John E. Murphy, Pharm D


Dr. Murphy is Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science at the College of Pharmacy, the University of Arizona. He previously was Director of Pharmacokinetic Services at a 500 bed medical center in Atlanta for 10 years. He was president (1997-1998) and member of the Board of Directors (1994-1997) of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), a 30,000 member organization.

Dr. Murphy has published approximately 150 papers and 60 abstracts on clinical pharmacy, pharmacy education, and pharmacokinetics. In December of 2003 he will receive the ASHP Foundation's Award for Sustained Contributions to the Literature of Pharmacy Practice.

John is currently a Co-Director of the Arizona Clinical Research Training Program (AzCRTP), an NIH K30 Clinical Research Curriculum Award and he is an investigator on the Drug-Drug Core of the Arizona Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics grant. John's research, teaching, and practice in the areas of clinical pharmacokinetics and therapeutic drug monitoring led him to develop and serve as editor of the text Clinical Pharmacokinetics Pocket Reference, which is now in its third edition.
