A normal heart rhythm is called "sinus" rhythm, because it originates in the sinus (or sinoatrial) node, the heart's natural pacemaker, and it then spreads through the heart's four pumping chambers, first the two (right and left) atria, then through the atrioventricular node and into the two (right and left) ventricles.
