Pharmacists' Principles for Quality Dispensing
Commit to Zero Tolerance for Errors

Commit to....

  • Asking patients about their use of prescription and nonprescription medications and dietary supplements and include this in a computerized medication record for each patient
  • Recording information about adverse drug reactions and drug allergies as well as food allergies in computerized patient record
  • Reporting errors and adverse events so others will not repeat them
  • Using the modern methods available to anticipate and prevent drug interactions
  • Fully informing patients (verbally and in writing) about what to expect from the medications
  • Verifying authenticity of the prescribing physician
  • Establishing a partnership with patients and their physicians and nurses to monitor therapy for interactions and for effective counseling of patients
  • Providing each patient with their own specific list of interactions between prescription medications and other medications, foods, and dietary supplements
