Studies on Diabetes  Two studies on oral administration of bark extract on strepozotocin-induced diabetic rats showed up to 25% decrease in blood sugars over a several week period (Pinto 1997, Korec 2000).
Other Uses  Folk uses include nausea and vomiting, fever, weakness, and water retention. (Moore 1990).

Phytochemistry  Quinine, alkaloids, flavones, glycosides, and saponens (Kay 1996).
Potential Adverse  Effects  No clinical adverse effects were found.
Potential Medication  Interactions  Anti-thrombotic medications-may increase effects.
