Marietta Anthony, PhD

Marietta Anthony is the Director of Women's Health Research in the Department of Pharmacology at Georgetown University Medical Center and Associate Director for Women's Health at the Georgetown General Clinical Research Center.

She was the Director of Research Programs at the NIH Office of Research on Women's Health where she managed a research portfolio on many diverse issues in women's health over the lifespan.

Before NIH, Dr Anthony was the acting Deputy Director of the Office of Women's Health at the Food and Drug Administration where she also directed a research program in women's health and acted as their scientific advisor. While at FDA, some of her areas were breast cancer, mammography, and breast implants; medication use by pregnant women; including women in clinical trials and assessing safety and efficacy of drugs in both women and men and a host of other women's health issues.

Prior to joining the FDA, Dr Anthony was a senior health policy analyst at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, where she managed the process of developing the clinical practice guidelines on "The Quality Determinants of Mammography" and "Management of Early HIV Infection." The clinical practice guidelines were developed by national experts who reviewed the scientific literature and wrote health care recommendations grounded on scientific data.

She received a PhD from the UCLA School of Medicine in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology where she worked on viruses that cause cancer.
